Super Mario Odyssey FAQ
Which Super Mario Odyssey guide should I start with?
Start with the Power Moon guides by kingdom if you are cleaning up the main collectible path. If you are hunting regional coins, use the Purple Coin Guide Hub and then return to the matching kingdom moon guide.
How many Power Moons are in Super Mario Odyssey?
There are 880 unique collectible Power Moons across the game, and the moon counter can eventually reach 999 through extra shop purchases. For guide cleanup, follow the kingdom pages first, then handle post-game and Moon Rock moons.
What is the best order to collect Power Moons?
Clear the story objectives first, then return kingdom by kingdom. After the credits, open Moon Rocks, finish NPC and outfit moons, clean up races and challenges, and save Dark Side, Darker Side and Mushroom Kingdom achievement moons for later.
Where are all the purple coins in Super Mario Odyssey?
Purple coins are tracked by kingdom, so the easiest route is to use a kingdom-specific guide. Start from the Super Mario Odyssey Purple Coin Guide Hub, then open Cascade, Sand, Lake and future kingdom pages from there.
Should I collect purple coins during the story or after?
Pick up obvious purple coins during the story, but save serious cleanup for after a kingdom is open and you have more checkpoints, captures and movement options. This makes missing coin clusters much easier to route.
Do purple coins count toward 100% completion?
Yes. Purple coins matter because they buy kingdom-specific shop items such as outfits, hats, souvenirs and stickers. They do not work like normal gold coins, and once collected they are permanently tracked for that kingdom.
Which outfits or costumes are required for Power Moons?
Some Power Moons require Mario to wear specific outfits or enter outfit-locked areas. Use the Outfits Guide card above for costume cleanup, and check Crazy Cap shops with both gold coins and purple coins when a kingdom has local clothing.
What should I do after beating Bowser?
After the story, revisit kingdoms for Moon Rock moons, Peach travel moons, tougher challenges, boss rematches and late-game unlocks. Dark Side opens at 250 Power Moons and Darker Side opens at 500 Power Moons, so post-game cleanup is best handled with a kingdom-by-kingdom route.
