Defeat all five Legendary Ships in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced to unlock the Devil Of The Caribbean trophy. There are four encounters in the corners of the map, with HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign sharing the hardest two-on-one battle. This guide covers every location, the best Jackdaw build, the three essential Officers and a reliable strategy for each phase.

Quick Overview

All Legendary Ship Locations and Best Order

Destroy the fortress in each surrounding region to reveal its Legendary Ship marker. There are five ships but only four map encounters because the southeast battle contains two targets.

Legendary Ship locations and recommended order
OrderShipRegionCoordinatesMain Threat
1HMS PrinceNavassa, northeast(854, 55)Fog phases and mortar survival
2La Dama NegraSerranilla, northwest(240, 72)Armoured sides and incendiary mortars
3El ImpolutoDry Tortuga, southwestEncounter around (117, 841)Heavy rams and flaming volleys
4HMS Fearless and Royal SovereignEleuthera, southeast(811, 858)Two ships, crossfire and an enraged survivor

Map references sometimes place El Impoluto closer to the Dry Tortuga region center around (161, 804). Follow the Legendary Ship marker in the southwest corner rather than treating either coordinate as a single-pixel target.

Best Jackdaw Build Before You Start

These are endgame naval bosses. Full upgrades make the fights consistent, but the most important upgrades are the ones that improve survival and the front-cannon-to-ram-to-broadside damage loop.

SurvivalHull Armor first
  • Maximum Hull Armor gives room for imperfect braces.
  • Carry full ammunition before entering each encounter.
  • Use a manual save outside the battle marker.
Burst DamageBroadside and Heated Shot
  • Upgrade cannon number and strength.
  • Use Heated Shot during close side passes.
  • Trigger the Swivel Gun on exposed red weakspots.
ControlRam, Mortar and Swivels
  • Ram Dash converts a clean approach into heavy damage.
  • Mortars punish slow turns and stationary firing phases.
  • Chain shots interrupt charges and create damage windows.

Use the Naval Combat and Jackdaw Upgrades Guide if your ship is still missing core combat upgrades.

Recruit These Three Naval Officers

The Resynced Officers change these fights more than a small stat upgrade. Recruit all three before the southeast encounter.

Ram DashPadre

Complete A Second Chance after This Old Cove. His Ram Dash adds speed and major impact damage to a clean head-on opening.

Perfect BraceLucy Baldwin

Complete A Proper Shipwright after This Old Cove. A last-second brace can almost nullify volleys that would otherwise remove a large part of the Jackdaw’s health.

Extra FirepowerTobias “Deadman” Smith

Complete No Box Dark Enough after Everything Is Permitted and A World Without Gold. He strengthens broadside output and his quest supplies a powerful multi-shot mortar variant.

The Core Legendary Ship Combat Loop

Each boss has a gimmick, but the same disciplined sequence wins every standard damage window.

  1. Open with front cannons or chain shot. Slow the target or damage it before the ships meet.
  2. Ram Dash only on a clean line. Do not force a ram through incoming broadside fire or a bad angle.
  3. Turn into a Heated Shot broadside. Fire while passing the target’s side, bow or stern.
  4. Hit red weakspots with the Swivel Gun. Take the free critical damage before they disappear.
  5. Mortar during turns and stationary phases. Moving targets can sail out of the impact zone; slow bosses cannot.
  6. Brace while every weapon reloads. Watch for orange cannon flashes and marked mortar water, then release brace only for the next attack.

HMS Prince Strategy

HMS Prince is the northeast ghost ship. Its normal phases are manageable; the danger comes when it disappears into the fog and begins repeated mortar bombardment.

  • Stay at medium range during the normal phase and trade Heated Shot broadsides after its volleys.
  • Use chain shot to interrupt movement and create safer mortar or ram windows.
  • After each health segment, the marker disappears and HMS Prince accelerates into the fog.
  • Do not chase directly behind it. Turn across its projected path while sailing in a wide arc.
  • Watch the water for mortar zones and perfect-brace any impact you cannot steer around.
  • When it reappears, meet it with front cannons and Ram Dash, then return to medium-range broadsides.

La Dama Negra Strategy

La Dama Negra is slower than the other Legendary Ships but carries armoured side plating and fast incendiary mortars. Positioning matters more than raw broadside spam.

  • Prioritize the bow and stern, where the armor does not protect the ship as effectively.
  • Use chain shot or shrapnel barrels to slow it, then reposition for front or rear damage.
  • Its side still takes damage, so fire when a broadside opportunity is safe rather than holding every shot.
  • Orange impact zones on the sea warn of the fast mortar barrage. Steer out or brace immediately.
  • When La Dama Negra stops to fire from range, answer with your own mortar.
  • In later phases, avoid barrels behind the ship and use the Swivel Gun to detonate them when La Dama Negra is close.

El Impoluto Strategy

El Impoluto is the southwest ram specialist. It repeatedly charges, circles outside comfortable broadside range and returns with heavy frontal fire.

  • The fight opens with a ram. Perfect-brace the first impact unless your Ram Dash timing is already reliable.
  • When it begins another charge, fire chain shot into the sails and place explosive barrels in its line.
  • Drop a mortar ahead of the charge, brace the collision and slide past either side.
  • Fire Heated Shot during the side pass, then use the Swivel Gun on any exposed weakspots.
  • When it circles outside cannon range, use mortars rather than chasing its turn.
  • Its later flaming volleys sweep across a wide area. Brace through the long burst and attack only when the barrage ends.

HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign Strategy

The southeast encounter is the real final exam: two Man-o-Wars attack together, cannot be boarded for mid-fight repairs and become more dangerous after the first ship sinks.

  • Never sail between them. Their two-sided crossfire can erase the Jackdaw even through an ordinary brace.
  • Pass outside one ship, fire a broadside and barrels, then turn away before the second ship lines up.
  • Use mortars when the pair makes its choreographed turn toward you.
  • Chain-shot one target to isolate it, then Ram Dash and fire Heated Shot before escaping the second ship’s angle.
  • Lower both health bars before sinking the first. The surviving ship catches fire and becomes an aggressive rammer, so leaving it near death makes the last phase much safer.
  • If you focus one ship instead, save enough mortar and broadside ammunition to burst the enraged survivor immediately.
  • Brace whenever weapons are reloading and use the Swivel Gun to detonate barrels they drop in later phases.

Legendary Ship Rewards

Each encounter awards 12,000 Reales, a matching Jackdaw cosmetic set and a Ship Model. The southeast pair shares one encounter reward and one model.

After all five ships are defeated, Devil Of The Caribbean should unlock. Legendary encounters can respawn later for optional rematches, but only the first complete set is needed for the trophy.

Legendary Ship Troubleshooting

If a battle feels impossible, the problem is usually preparation or positioning rather than damage output alone.

Legendary Ships FAQ

How many Legendary Ships are in Black Flag Resynced?

There are five ships across four encounters. HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign fight together in the southeast.

Which Legendary Ship should I fight first?

HMS Prince or La Dama Negra are the best starting choices. This route begins with HMS Prince, then moves to La Dama Negra, El Impoluto and the southeast duo.

Can I earn the trophy on Very Easy?

Yes. Trophy progress is not locked to a difficulty setting, so reduce the difficulty if you want a more forgiving naval battle.

Do I need every Jackdaw upgrade?

A complete build is strongly recommended. At minimum, maximize Hull Armor and invest heavily in broadside cannons, swivels, ram and mortars before the final encounter.

Can Legendary Ships be boarded for repairs?

Do not rely on boarding during these boss fights. HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign specifically cannot be boarded after their health is depleted, so the duo offers no repair break.

Can I fight Legendary Ships again?

Yes. In Resynced, defeated Legendary Ships can respawn after a period of time for optional rematches.
