Cartographer is a Silver trophy in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced for visiting every named location in the game. There are 57 locations: 39 islands and settlements, 11 forts and 7 underwater shipwrecks. This guide explains what actually counts as visited, lists every current Resynced coordinate and solves the common 56/57 problem.

What Counts as Visiting a Location?

You do not need 100% completion at each island. Cartographer checks whether every named map destination has been discovered correctly.

57Total Locations
39Islands and Settlements
11Forts
7Shipwrecks
  • Islands and settlements: sail close enough for the white question mark to become a named icon with Fast Travel available. You usually do not need to step ashore.
  • Forts: approach until the game reveals the fort name and number of defenses. The Fast Travel icon can remain grey because the fort is undefeated; that still counts.
  • Shipwrecks: sailing over the Diving Bell marker is not enough. Start the dive and enter the underwater area so the wreck no longer says Undiscovered.
  • Viewpoints: synchronization helps reveal land activities but is not required for Cartographer by itself.
  • Hunting and harpooning spots: whales, sharks and temporary nearby activity markers do not count toward the 57.
  • Collectibles: chests, Secrets, shanties and other completion tasks can remain unfinished. Only the named location discovery matters.
Reliable completion check: open the world map, zoom in and cycle overlapping icons. Every white named location should offer Fast Travel, every fort should show its defense information, and every shipwreck should be entered at least once.

Story-Gated Cartographer Locations

Finish the campaign through Sequence 10 before doing a strict checklist sweep. Eleven required locations depend on story progress.

Do Not Forget the Separate Principe Map

Principe is reached during Sequence 9, Memory 2, Trust is Earned. It is not part of the main Caribbean checklist view.

Complete the story visit, then verify Principe is named and available from the map transition. If you started the 57-location sweep before Sequence 9, this is one of the most likely missing entries.

Cartographer Trophy FAQ

How many locations are required for Cartographer?

There are 57 required named locations: 39 islands and settlements, 11 forts and 7 underwater shipwrecks across the Caribbean and Principe maps.

Do I have to complete every location to 100%?

No. Chests, Secrets, shanties, viewpoints and other collectibles can remain unfinished. Cartographer only requires the named destination to register as visited.

Do I need to capture all forts for Cartographer?

No. Sail close enough for the fort name and defenses to appear. Its Fast Travel icon can remain grey because the fort is still undefeated.

Why does an underwater shipwreck still say Undiscovered?

You must use the Diving Bell and enter the underwater map. Sailing near the wreck marker does not register the location for Cartographer.

What are the easiest Cartographer locations to miss?

Check Caracol at (919, 339), Cayman Sound at (301, 309), all seven shipwrecks and the separate Principe map first. Caracol and Cayman Sound can be hidden underneath quest icons.

Is Cartographer missable?

No. Every required location can be visited during free roam after the story.
